Alan Herbert Blekfeld, 72, of Williamsburg

Alan Herbert Blekfeld (Nelsen Funeral Home)

Alan Herbert Blekfeld, 72, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in Williamsburg, VA.

He battled serious medical conditions in the past few years and his family called him the man with nine lives. Despite the pain and challenges that came with his conditions, Alan always enjoyed visits from family and his closest friends. He also was able to still enjoy time in the afternoons at one of his favorite places, The Jamestown Marina.

As a child, Alan played football and ran track at James Blair High School in Williamsburg, VA. He continued to enjoy sports and played in a men’s softball league for many years. His softball teams became like family, and they spent time together both on and off the field.

Alan worked at the Anheuser Busch Brewery from the time the plant opened in 1972, until his retirement in 2004. He was an incredibly hard-working man and worked 6 days a week for most of his career. He had high expectations for everyone; his family, his friends, and just about anyone he encountered.

Alan was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Little Surry Hunt Club in Surry, VA and spent many days in the woods and surrounded by men that were life-long friends.

He also enjoyed the beach, the river, boating, fishing and golfing. Some of our best memories are of beach days at Camp Wallace on the James River, “Curtis’ Strange Navy”, picking crabs and time spent with friends that were more like family.

Alan is survived by his loving daughters, Alisa (Brian) Frost and Kerry (AJ) Henderson of Williamsburg; his grandchildren, Clay (Fallon) Frost, Casey Frost, Megan (Jordan) Henderson Bernier, Cole Henderson and Nicholas Toepke; great-grandchildren Elliot Frost and Caybree Atchley; and another great-grandchild on the way. He loved his girls and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He was infatuated with his grandchildren and loved to talk about them and lit up when he saw them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lora Blekfeld.

In true Alan fashion, he did not want a memorial service. His daughters have chosen to host a casual visitation/reception at Nelsen’s Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Fields Rd., Williamsburg on Monday, May 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to share stories and see familiar faces that loved their dad as much as they did.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared here.
