Jerome Francis Vorwald, Sr., 75, resident of Newport News, VA passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his home.
Jerome, lovingly known as Jerry by his friends and family, grew up in Wisconsin. He spent his formative years helping on the family farm and was a proud member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America). At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he would serve for 20 years. He followed this career up, working for various companies along side the military for the next 25 years, continuing to travel all over the world.
Jerome was a loving and devoted husband and father of 5 children. He loved gardening/landscaping along side his wife of 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time out in nature. He loved cooking out and spending quality time with his friends and family.
Later in life, he enjoyed feeding and watching wildlife and watching his westerns. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and donated to numerous charities and organizations. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Newport News, VA.
Jerome was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Joseph Vorwald of Dubuque, IA; his mother, Helen Louise Vorwald of Racine, WI; his wife, Darlene Ann Vorwald of Newport News, VA and his brother, Jim Vorwald of Chicago, IL. He is survived by his son, Jerome Vorwald Jr. and wife, Patricia Vorwald; 4 daughters, Sherry Faircloth of Erwin, NC and husband, Robert Faircloth, Lisa Hester of Fayetteville, NC and husband, Lee Hester, Michelle Lech of Pinehurst, NC and husband, Jeff Lech and Beth Smith and husband, David Smith; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 9 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. George M. Prado with Military Honors. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Wisconsin. The service will be live streamed and can viewed at https://www.facebook.com/StJeromeNewportNews/.
