Donald Ray “D.R.” Lacy II, 51, of Newport News, VA, passed away November 13, 2022 at his home in Newport News, VA. He was preceded in death by his dad, Donald Ray Lacy; his brother, Tommy Lacy; and step-father Billy Wells. D.R is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Amy Carter Lacy, and children Zach Short (Jordan), Natalie Short Boites (Alberto), Lindsey Short Gonzalez (Sebastian), Sam Short, Zac Lacy and Dauson Lacy. He is also survived by his mother, Lanette L. Wells, and sister, Della L. Williams (Bobby); grandchildren Jacen, Leo, Zayn and Zelina; his furry children, Katsumi and Sophie; and numerous other family and friends. D.R served his country for 22 years in the Army, serving in numerous wars and overseas assignments. He supported numerous veteran-groups and causes, made charitable donations, arranged group counseling sessions, and went on trips with fellow veterans…helping veterans overcome their struggles after serving in the military. D.R loved riding his Harleys, Atlanta Braves baseball, watching Florida Gators football on tv, participating in and coaching with sports, singing, working in his garage, and tinkering with his trucks. Per his request, he will be cremated and his family will have a private celebration of his life, as he wished for no funeral service.
