Charlie Martin, 90, of Williamsburg

CHARLIE E MARTIN was called to eternal rest on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Dominion Village in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was under the care of Kindred Hospice until his passing at the age of 90. His life journey began on January 17, 1932  in Fluvanna County Virginia to the late Ruth and Phil Martin Sr. When Charlie was a young boy his family relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia.

Charlie attended James City County public Schools and was a graduate of Bruton Heights High School in Williamsburg, Virginia. After graduating high school, two years later, he found the LOVE of his life Emily V. Berkley and was joined in Holy Matrimony. They only had a few days together before he was drafted into the Korean War. He served 18 months and was honorably discharged. He also served 7 years honorably in the Army Reserve. Charlie and Emily started their family and was blessed with 6 loving children, Joan, Ervin, Tony, Anthony, Troy and Angela.

Charlie was employed at Butts Furniture Store as a television, washer, and dryer repairman. He also delivered furniture. Later the store was sold and he brought the maintenance part and started Martin’s T.V. Service. For years he had a very successful business until it became unprofitable to make a living. He then went to school and became certified on HVAC systems and started working for Colonial Williamsburg where he worked as a maintenance supervisor until retirement.

Charlie loved helping people, listening to the word of God, reading his Bible,  gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and his television time (Big Fan of cartoons). He faithfully served in his church World Outreach Worship Center. His Favorite football team was the Steelers.

Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 66 years, Emily V Martin; parents, Ruth and Phil Martin Sr.; son, Troy D Martin; sister’s, Bessie Smith, Genevieve Christian, Ida Christian and Thelma Casselle; brother’s, Eric Martin, Owen Martin, Major Martin, George Martin and Phil Martin Jr.

Charlie leaves his cherished memories to his sons, Ervin Martin (Peggy) of Great Falls Montana, Tony Martin of Williamsburg, Virginia, Anthony Martin (Patricia) of  Lackey, Virginia; daughters, Joan Madison (Michael) of Harvest ,AL, Angela Taylor (Lloyd) of Hampton, Virginia; sister, Inez Love Bowie, of MD; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of caring church family and friends.

A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday November 1, 2022 at the World Outreach Worship Center 1233 Shields Road Newport News Virginia, with Pastor Russell Evenson officiating. Interment will follow at the Hampton  Memorial Garden 155 Butler Farm Road Hampton, Virginia. At this time Charlie And Emily Martin will be laid to rest together.
