Virginia Thomas Henry Mitchell was born November 5, 1925 to the late James Thomas Henry and Julia Hill Henry. She went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2022. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Virginia spent her early years living a life most of us dream of, experiencing the lights and charm of New York City. This is where she met her late husband, Henry Mitchell. Virginia had no children of her own, but after the passing of her devoted cousin Rhoda, whom was more like a sister, she graciously stepped in and became a grandmother/great-grandmother figure and matriarch to the Green family.
Virginia was a friend to all, spending most of her later years taking people to doctor’s appointments and attending as many church services and sing-outs throughout the county as she could.
Best known by her family for faithfully dropping the pan of baked beans she brought to the family cookout each year; she could always be counted on for a good laugh, countless stories about the old days and great food. She graciously opened her kitchen, teaching those she loved her famous recipes for cabbage and cornbread. Her love for southern cooking will be carried on for generations to come.
While we are all saddened by her passing, we find comfort in the joy that she brought to her parents, brother, husband and devoted cousin Rhoda’s face when she graced heavens gates with her presence. What a joyous reunion that must have been.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Mitchell; brother, James Henry; devoted cousin/sister, Rhoda Green; devoted niece, Mae Green and a host of other family members she loved and held dear.
She leaves to cherish her memory, granddaughter, Kim Pascoe (Adrian); nephew, George Louden, Jr.; devoted nephews, William Green (Christal) and Clement Green (Joyce); niece Renee Cotman (Ray); special cousin and friend, Melvin Wynn, as well as a host of cousins, church family and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1PM Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Trinity Baptist Church, 209 East Rose Garden Rd, King William VA 23181. A viewing will be from 5pm-7pm Monday, October 17, 2022, at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, VA.
