Maurice Wallace, 59, of Charles City

Maurice Wallace (Vincent Funeral Home)

Our treasured Maurice Wallace left his place on Earth on June 20, 2022, at the age of 59, to be reunited with his mother in Heaven. The two shared a special bond, and it is comforting to know they are together, again.

Maurice was born to Summerfield and Florine (Brown) Wallace, Sr in Charles City on November 12, 1962. He was the fourth child of six and the youngest of their two sons. At a young age, he accepted Christ into his life and became a member of Little Elam Baptist Church. Growing up, he was skilled with his hands and could build just about anything. He went on to work at Modern Made Cabinets and Facelifters for many years after graduating from Ruthville High School in 1981.

When he wasn’t working at the shop or helping someone with a project, he enjoyed throwing on some nice clothes with his fedora and hitting the town. He loved music and deejayed as “Too Short” all over Charles City. When he showed up in that blue van, there was no doubt there’d be good music and a good time. He also found great pleasure in fishing, cooking, or anything he could do with family and friends. Some of the best times and fondest memories have Maurice at the center. Along with his mother and father, greeting Maurice in Heaven are his brothers: Bobby Sr., Summerfield Jr, Leon, Dallis, and Evan, and sisters: Emma Adkins, Delois Allen, Arnette Brown, and Rosa Tabb.

While he didn’t have biological children, Maurice leaves behind to cherish his memory daughters-in-love, Kelsey (Demetrius) James and Maryann Chargualaf, son-in-love, Damien (Tomeka) Gatling, and grandchildren: Mai’Ana, Maliha, Damien, Jr and Jasmine. He is also survived by sisters: Anna (Dudley) Adkins, Dorothy (Michael) Armstead, Brenda (Wesley) Copling, Wilhelmina (Prince) Wallace-Hopson, Etta Jones, Joyce Crawley, Clem (Floyd) Miles; sisters-in-love, Rosa Lee “Sticks” Mason and Carolyn “Cookie” Marrows, and brother: Daniel (Phyllis) Wallace Sr. He will truly be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Whether he was your Reese, Meter, Uncle Maurice, Uncle Reese or Too Short, to know Maurice Wallace was to know friendship and love beyond measure. While his light may seem to have been extinguished from this world, a piece of him shines within all those he loved and loved him in return.

A visitation will be held 5PM-8PM Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA. The last half hour of the visitation will be open for a brief moment to share a few words with the family. Interment will be privately held at a later date.
