
CHARLES CITY — Charles “Charlie” Ryland Tench, Jr, 65, of Charles City, VA passed away April 23, 2022 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by family in his home, while looking at pictures of his grandchildren. Charlie was born and raised in Charles City County and was a life-long farmer, entrepreneur and follower of Jesus. He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing as well as working with his hands. Charlie was loved by everyone and was a very giving person. He worked 6 to 7 days a week but always had time to help someone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Margaret Robins Tench; his grandparents Lucille Binns Tench and Bob Tench; and close friend Shirley Tooley.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 24 years Teri Tench; his children Justin and Katelyn Tench, Charles and Kortlin Tench, Bob and Lea Dill, Jeremy Dill, and Nathan Dill; his siblings Margie and Frank Hula, Henry and Nancy Tench, Robin and Chuck Schreiber; his mother and father-in-law Larry and Louise Smith; and the light of his life, his grandchildren, Eli, Ryland, Laurel, Fielding, Prosper, and Opal Tench, Nani Tench, Sean Dill and soon-to-be-born granddaughter Dill.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 19300 The Glebe Lane, Charles City, VA 23030. Interment will be on the family farm. The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. just before the service, at the church.
