HAMPTON — Bjarne A. Kausland passed away April 20, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Kausland, Norway in 1940. Bjarne had a passion for work and family and started his work career with Munck in Bergen, Norway working in the shop as a fabricator. His curiosity of why and how things work led him to university where he received Mechanical Engineering degree. His professionalism, accountability, and integrity caused the Munck leadership to look to him to begin an engineering group at the office in Hampton, Virginia. His curiosity and commitment inspired a move to Hampton in September of 1972 for a two-year assignment. Two years turned into fifty as he continued to follow his passion for family and engineering.
Bjarne worked at Munck to build a company that was acquired by Swisslog in 1998. Bjarne held many positions including Engineer, Project Manager, Chief Engineer, Head of Customer Support, Vice President of Engineering, Mentor, Leader, and “Go-to” when something needed to get done. He retired from Swisslog after 44 years only to continue to consult on difficult opportunities that needed to to be solved. Bjarne was beloved by friends and co-workers. He supported and mentored anyone who had a question and was interested to listen. In his spare time, he loved family, to sail, play golf, work on home improvements, and to travel to Norway.
Bjarne is survived by his wife, Britt Kausland, his son, Arne Kausland and his fiancé, Mona Bakke, his son, Stig Kausland; his brother, Vilhelm Kausland and wife Oddny Anne Kausland; nieces, Nina Kausland and Anne Kristine Kausland; his newphew, Knut Ove Kausland; sister-in-law, Lise Kausland; and his grandson, Davis Kausland.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News 23606. A get together in Bjarne’s memory will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Brad Moor’s house, 525 Sandpiper Cove, Yorktown, VA 23692.
