NEWPORT NEWS — Doris R. (Peet) Erb of Newport News, VA, formerly of Hammond, IN, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021. She was born in Hammond, Indiana and a resident for 88 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur B Erb, mother Agnes (Lynch) Peet and father Frank Peet. She is survived by four children: Christine Morris, Cecelia Waggoner, Sharon Swafford (Randy), and Arthur J. Erb. She was the proud grandmother of Kacey Blank (Cameron), Ashley Swafford, Eugene Hanas (Colleen), Ronald Waggoner Jr, Elizabeth Waggoner, and Ella Haley (Philip), great-grandmother of Jude Blank, Amelia Hanas, Jorie Hanas, and Ronald Nickolas Wagonner; and aunt of several. Doris loved God, and was a member of Orchard Drive Baptist Church, and later Hoffman Baptist Church in Hammond. She sang in the choir at church, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed the good fellowship with everyone. She had a wonderful memory and knew several bible verses and hymnals by heart. She also loved cooking, knitting, drawing, puzzles, word search games, and most of all spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be dearly missed.
There will be a small viewing service for family only at the Altmeyer Funeral Home in Newport News at 2 PM. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville, IN.
