WILLIAMSBURG — Tammy Rojek, 57, born March 18, 1963, in Grants, New Mexico, to parents, James Boatler Shuck and Flora Gonzales, went peacefully to the Father Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1981, she pursued several career paths while raising her two boys, for a period, as a single mom. In 1988, Tammy joined the College of William & Mary bookstore. Then, in 1996, she joined the City of Williamsburg, Public Works Department, serving as the assistant to the director of Public Works, a position she held for almost 25 years.
Tammy worshiped at the New Town United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served on the Leadership Board for six years, and served with husband Fred in the Family Life Marriage Ministry for almost 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Shuck; and first husband, Timothy Sarver.
She is survived by a marvelously large and loving family to include her husband of 16 years, Fred Rojek, who she married because he was “tougher than the rest”; mother, Flora Mullen; stepfather, John Mullen; sister, Carol Marley; sons, Christopher Sarver, and his wife, Amanda, and Andrew Sarver, and his wife, Shannon; stepdaughters, Lauren Tepaske, and her husband, Marcus, Audra Rojek and Maura Wyrick, and her husband, Jason; grandchildren, Rowan and Elijah Sarver, Sophie and Ella Sarver, Jacob Ford, Alexandra and Josephine Tepaske and Holden, Hailynne and Dominic Wyrick.
Tammy enjoyed life to fullest. Known for her kindness, sense of humor and contagious smile, she loved and spent much time with her large and constantly growing family, and was a devoted “Gigi” to her 10 grandchildren. Her service to City of Williamsburg included HRGreen (known as the “Green Queen”) and service on several environmental education committees.
She enjoyed the movies, travel, hiking, camping, the beach, and, most of all, spending time with her many and beloved friends. Above all, she loved and worshiped the Lord Jesus typically through dancing and singing to her favorite Christian music. Tammy was a beautiful soul who blessed the life of anyone fortunate enough to have known her.
In-person viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, at Bucktrout of Williamsburg. A closed service will be held Sunday, Feb. 7. A private interment will take place Monday, Feb. 8.
