Georgette Knorowski died Friday, Oct. 30, 2020. She lived a long and happy life full of love and family.
She was born in Saint-Etienne, France, to Francis and Yvonne Delay. She was one of six sisters, Marthe, Luce, Andree, Simone, Georgette and Mireille. After World War II, Georgette attended art school in Marseilles, France, where she met Anthony J. Knorowski. They married and then came to America and began a family.
Georgette attended a local community college taking courses in computer science and was later employed as a computer operator for many years until retiring. After retirement, Georgette enjoyed painting and taking art classes. She was a lifelong animal lover, providing a loving home for many animals over the years, including multiple dogs, cats, birds and even a horse. Georgette volunteered over 5,000 hours with the Virginia Living Museum, participated in wildlife rehabilitation and was an active member of Merrimac Dog Training Club.
She greatly enjoyed using social media to keep in contact with her many relatives living throughout Europe. Georgette passed peacefully in her own home surrounded by family. We will always treasure our good fortunes in having someone who constantly poured out so much love to all of us and will keep all those happy moments in our hearts and minds forever.
Georgette is survived by her three children, Daniel (Holly), Richard (Sandy) and Patsy (Ed); grandchildren, Shane (Erin), Chris (Monique), Jodi and Eddie; as well as great-grandchildren, Aurora and Asher.
A private ceremony will be held in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
To honor Georgette’s memory, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to where Georgette adopted many wonderful animals from over the years, the Animal Aid Society or Peninsula SPCA.
Share online condolences with the family at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
