
WILLIAMSBURG — Marjorie Taliaferro “Margie” Morris, 80, answered the Lord’s call and went home peacefully to receive her wings Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, surrounded by her family.
Marjorie Taliaferro Morris was born May 1, 1940, to the late John Henry and Lucille Ashlock Taliaferro in Newport News. She was the oldest of two children.
Margie was a 1958 graduate of George Washington Carver High School. Upon graduation, she worked at Parent Child Development Corporation (PCDC) for over 10 years and Newport News Public Schools for over 20 years.
Margie was a faithful and dedicated member of Rising Sun Baptist Church, Lackey. She faithfully attended Sunday School and Noon Day Prayer. She previously served as the church clerk for over 34 years. She also was a senior usher, vacation bible school teacher, and worked in the finance office. Currently, she was serving in the Helping Hands Missionary Ministry, Women’s Ministry and was a church historian. She loved her church and church family.
Margie loved doing word search puzzles, watching T.V., listening to gospel music and making special memories with her family. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She loved giving gifts to her children and grandchildren and seeing the joy on their faces. Her utmost joy was felt when she shared the story of the greatest gift of all, our Lord and Savior. Margie was also known for her baking, especially her 7-Up pound cake.
Margie was preceded in death by her brother, John Henry Taliaferro Jr. She leaves to cherish precious memories her daughter, Gale Taliaferro Walker (Rodney); son, Myron A. Morris (Melissa); five grandchildren, Diontae Gibson (Ashley), Marquise Morris, Myron Morris, Trinity Walker and Jediah Walker; great-granddaughter, Sanai Gibson; aunt, Clara Washington; and a host of cousins and special friends.
A walk-through viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at noon, Friday, Sept. 4, at Rising Sun Baptist Church. Face coverings and social distancing will be required. Facebook livestreaming will be available for this service.
