Deacon Thurston Lee Goodman, 52, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, June 28, 2020. He was born Jan. 2, 1968, to Virginia Boyd Goodman and the late Robert Ford in Newport News.
Thurston was educated in the Newport News Public Schools and was a part of the 1985 graduating class at Warwick High School. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Faith Praise Deliverance Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Rydell Mason. Thurston was very active in his church ministry and was a member of their Deacon Board.
Thurston loved to cook and was a chef for many years at several food establishments. His affection for people was exceptional, so you would frequently find him feeding the homeless at various shelters. Thurston adored his family, and he would often take care of his nieces and nephews. He was also a role model to many and enjoyed his time mentoring young men who needed to see a good example of what a God-fearing man should be.
Thurston was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ford; and brother, David Goodman.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Linda Warlington Goodman; daughter, Erika Phillips; stepson, Jonathan Warlington; four grandchildren; mother, Virginia Boyd Goodman; siblings, Lorenzo Goodman Sr., Kenny Coles, Connie Coles, Angela Ford, Shelia Ford, Catherine Jones, Sharrod Ford and Sherrell Ford; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family and friends.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 4, at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, 3314 Roanoke Ave., Newport News. A celebration of life service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be held at noon, Monday, July 6, in Oakwood Cemetery,
