Terry Allen Ruhl, 75, of Hampton, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News. Terry was born Sept. 14, 1943, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was the only child of Clyde Shiley Ruhl and Anna Elizabeth Weaver Ruhl.

He was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. He served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from July 1961 to March 1969 with an extended tour in Iwo Jima, Japan during the Vietnam War. He served the community as a police officer with the Hampton Police Division until his retirement in 1996 after 25 years of service. He was called back to work in the division’s Case Quality Control office, where he worked up to his death.

Terry was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Hampton, and the Monitor Lodge. He enjoyed bass fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees, woodworking, watching old movies and spending time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and adored his granddaughter.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Robert Milligan; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jill Alley Ruhl; son, Craig Allen Ruhl; stepson, Christopher O’Neal Tucker; granddaughter, Micaela Marian Ruhl; daughter, Phyllis Ruhl Milligan; son, Timothy Ruhl, and his children, granddaughters, Kimberly Milligan Meade, and Stephanie Milligan, and their children.

A memorial service with police honor guard will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, with visitation at 10 a.m., Masonic rites at 10:45 a.m., services at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton. Burial with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park. All are welcome to attend.
