Jane Whitmore Whittemore, 93, died Monday, July 30, 2018. Born in Pensacola, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Dr. William Harvey Whitmore and Harriet Elizabeth Weiss Angeny. Jane was the wife and widow of Thomas Marshall Whittemore.
Jane graduated from the College of William & Mary with a degree in art and was a Kappa Alpha Theta. After graduation in 1947, she taught art at Granby High School. She also traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe studying art and was a member of the American Association of Women Artists. Jane exhibited at the National Academy of Design in NYC, the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Tampa Museum and at multiple local art shows. While in Sarasota, she painted circus performers at Ringling Brothers. She designed both her houses and loved to decorate them with antiques and flowers from her yard.
Her friends enjoyed her fun parties and would dress up and dance until late at night. Jane loved chocolate and dinners at the PACC. She studied genealogy and did extensive research on her German and Swedish ancestors. Jane was truly a Renaissance woman. She was loved by her friends and will be in our hearts forever.
Jane was grateful for the help of her longtime helpers, Lucia Duarte and Margaret McCoy.
Jane was preceded in death by her older brother, Dr. William H. Whitmore, and his wife, Lamar; and sister, Mary Ellen Cheek. She is survived by her children, Katharine Corbin Panzella, and her husband, William, Thomas Marshall Whittemore Jr., and his wife, Lynne, and John Angeny Whittemore; grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Pierce, Evelyn Marie Byrd Panzella, Jason Panzella, David Panzella, Chris Whittemore and Joan Mosher; and great-grandchild, Griffin Mosher.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad and Heartland Hospice.
