
Carol Dixon Emerson, 66, departed this life Friday, May 25, 2018, surrounded by his family at home and went to be with his Lord, where he will spend eternity.
He graduated from York High School, Class of 1971, and was a former firefighter and EMT with York County and the Coast Guard stations at Fort Story and Yorktown. He followed in his father’s footsteps as a brick mason for many years. He enjoyed scuba diving and treasure hunting.
He was an active member of Mahone’s Brigade, CSA, and participated in many Civil War reenactments. He was a much-loved volunteer at Warwick Gardens retirement community.
Carol was the son of the late Frederick Wray Emerson Sr. and Anne Hudgins Emerson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Oliver Emerson.
He is survived by his children, Mary Anne Emerson of Yorktown, C.D. Emerson of Yorktown, Darlene Riffe of Grafton and Lisa Tingler of Roanoke; sister, Cheryl DeZego; two brothers, Frederick Wray Emerson Jr., and his wife, Sandra, and Garry Tabb Emerson, all of Seaford; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by former spouses, Brenda Dudley, Sandra Maher and Joyce Emerson; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, May 31, at Bethel Baptist Church. A celebration of his life will follow at 2 p.m.
