Rickey T. Strong Sr., 61, recently retired from Cheatham Annex Navy Supply Base after 42 years’ service

Mr. Rickey T. Strong Sr., 61, was born March 31, 1956, in James City County, Va., to the late Catherine Strong and Herman Savage. He departed this life peacefully Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at the Hospice House of Williamsburg. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Bridgette E. Byrd and Lisa Strong.

Mr. Strong graduated from Lafayette High School, Class of 1974, in Williamsburg, Va. He entered the U.S. Armed Forces at an early age and was honorably discharged. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Rickey really enjoyed sports, especially football and basketball.

At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church. Later in life, he joined Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member and served on the board of trustees until his demise. He loved his church family, but the greatest love he found was in Jesus Christ.

He was employed by Cheatham Annex Navy Supply Base and recently retired on Jan. 3, 2018, after 42 years of dedicated service.

His precious memories will remain with his devoted wife of 27 years, Alma M. Strong; precious daughter, Rickayla Strong; three devoted sons, Tico Strong, Rickey Strong Jr. (Keisha) and Antoine Chapman; eight grandchildren, Ri’Asia Strong, Rickki Strong, Nakiya Strong, Elijah Strong, Tiara Strong, Tico Strong Jr., Tamiya Strong and Tiana Strong; nephew, Christopher Hubbs; sister, Lori Hubbs; two devoted sisters-in-law, Altina Lockley and Anita Lockley; wonderful and supportive mother-in-law, Mrs. Doris Lockley; father, Herman Savage; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 8581 Croaker Road, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Myron Sutherlin officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. Mr. Strong may be viewed in at the church on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of his service.
