Mildred Elva Spradlin Young, 91, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, surrounded by family. She was a Williamsburg resident for over 70 years and was affectionately known as Mimi, Millie and Aunt Mil.

Her greatest joys in life were her faith, family and music. She was currently a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church and formally an active member at Olive Branch Christian Church where she served as organist and choir director for many years. She loved to sew, garden, play piano and sing.

Mimi had a long career at Stadium Oil Sales. She and her husband, Harry, ran Pleasant Walk Dairy in Williamsburg for many years.

Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Montgomery County, Va., she was the last living child of the late William Henry Spradlin and Bertha Cole Johnson Spradlin. The youngest of nine, her brothers and sisters were Clarence Spradlin, Ernest Spradlin, Thelma Fenton, Ethel Price, Lucille Fisher, Bertha Miller, James Spradlin and Howard Spradlin.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry L. Young Jr. and Robert P. (Bob) Wright; grandson, Michael Hutchens; and daughter-in-law, Chris Young.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Y. Hutchens of Toano, Va.; sons, Charles G. “Chuck” Young, and his wife, Gwen, of Williamsburg, Va., and Douglas W. “Doug” Young of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Andrea Sheffield, Steven Hutchens (Eleanor), Jennie Swiechowicz (Tim), Emily Chapman (Colin), Ryan Young, Sarah Kiel (Isaac) and Rachel Young; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff at Patriot’s Colony Convalescent Center who had been taking care of Mimi during her last years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 12, at King of Glory Lutheran Church. Interment will be scheduled at a later date to take place in Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd County, Va.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions be given to King of Glory Lutheran Church, Music Fund, 4897 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188; or the charity of your choice.
