Cherokee J. Baer, 66, of Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017, at the Williamsburg Hospice House after a brief illness.
Cherokee was born in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada, to Louis Merino and Anna Bella Dupuis on May 4, 1951. She lived in Connecticut for more than 30 years before moving to Virginia and was very much a Connecticut Yankee.
Cherokee married Jack Baer on a beautiful day in August 22, 1992, at Saint James Catholic Church in Stratford, Conn. She worked as an executive assistant for Fortune 50 companies before devoting her life to working for the church. She was parish manager of Saint James Catholic Church and Social Ministry director at Saint Bede. Cherokee was very proud of her American Indian heritage and loved life, music, family, friends and dogs. She was a championship drummer in the Drum & Bugle Corps, where she was the first female to break an all-male drum line.
She is survived by family and loved ones too numerous to mention.
Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Saint Bede Catholic Church followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow after the Mass on the church grounds.
