James M. Griffin, 77, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017. He was born July 27, 1939, to the late Idella Marie and Joseph M. Griffin in Montpelier, Vt. His brother, Mike Griffin, preceded him in death.
Mr. Griffin served five years in the U.S. Marines and retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service. James loved the C-130 Hercules military plane. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bowling, the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the VFW and the Fleet Reserve Branch 99.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lita Griffin; son, Jerry Griffin, and his wife, Rosalinda; daughters, Christine Griffin, Maria Griffin and Grace Taylor; brother, Bruce Griffin, and his wife, Pam; sisters, Sharon Quinn and Patricia Beaver; grandchildren, Hershel and Valeria; sisters-in-law, Mindy Crosby, and her husband, James, and Susan Flordelis, and her husband, Andy Rodriguez. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach VA. A burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
