Gavin Blaine Vest, cherished son and brother, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 3, 2017. He touched the lives of so many with his sweet smile and kind, gentle ways.
Gavin was a graduate of Grafton High School where he excelled in soccer and academics. He then went to James Madison University where he found camaraderie with his brothers of ATO. He made many enduring friendships during his time there.
After graduating from JMU, Gavin worked in the mortgage industry for a while. Last September, he took a job auditing at the Sanderling Resort and was looking into making the Outer Banks his home.
Gavin is survived by his parents, Tad and Kristie Vest of Yorktown; the sister he waited so long for and loved wholeheartedly, Malayna Alexis Vest; grandparents, Glenn and Kathy Jones of Gloucester, and Kathy Vest of Poquoson. He leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins with loving memories of time spent together.
A celebration of Gavin’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, led by the Rev. Brent Staul at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. The family will receive friends after service until 4 p.m. at Surf’s Up Restaurant, 100 Cary’s Chapel Road, Poquoson.
In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to the York County Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 532, Yorktown, VA 23690. Their efforts will never be forgotten.
