James A. Kunkler Sr., 88, died on Saturday, March 12, 2016. He was born in Marion, Ohio, to the late Donald Franklin Kunkler and Marion Kunkler.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Kunkler retired from the City of Virginia Beach as a public utilities engineer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach; the American Legion and the Virginia Beach Masonic Lodge No. 274.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Hayman Kunkler; son, James Allen Kunkler Jr.; two grandsons, Keven Allen Kunkler and Stephen Michael Kunkler; three great-grandsons, Landon, Cooper and Liam; daughter, Phyllis (Wade) Kunkler Slachter; two granddaughters, Holland Anne Slachter and Kendall Grace Slachter; and his devoted kitty, Sally Anne.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th St., Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Albert G. Butzer III and the Rev. Caroline A. Jinkins presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or the Virginia Beach SPCA.
