Mildred was born in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late Early Lee and Mary Weaver Potts. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William Joseph Hermann, her brothers Paul and Raymond Potts, and sisters Ruth Combs, Olean King, Margaret Wagner and Helen Townsend.
Mildred is survived by her son Gary Hermann and wife Joan of Virginia Beach, VA and their children Brad Hermann and Tammy Perduto; her daughter Janet Freeman and husband Joe of Williamston, NC and their children Joey Tate, Jason Tate and Crissy Wells; her son Kim Hermann and wife Betty of Norfolk, VA and their children William and Taylor Hermann; and her daughter Lisa Davis and husband Scott of Chester, VA and their daughter Kaitlyn Davis. Mildred and William established the interior design firm American Interiors, Ltd. on 21st St., Norfolk, VA in 1947. The firm is still run by the family. Mildred was very much involved in the business and continued to drive from her Virginia Beach home to the office until well into her later years.
Mildred and William moved to Virginia Beach in 1963. A devoted Christian, Mildred wanted a Baptist church near her new Little Neck home, so in 1965, along with thirteen others, she founded King’s Grant Baptist Church. She was involved in the construction of both the first church building and its 2002 renovation and expansion. She was the first director of the church nursery, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a much loved member of the Mary Martha Sunday school class. Mildred will be remembered for her sweet, gentle disposition, her humble service to others, and her steadfast devotion to the Lord and His church.
A graveside service officiated by Rev. Skip Wallace took place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, VA on February 4, 2016. Donations in memory of Mildred may be made to King’s Grant Baptist Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
