Mr. Baber was born Dec. 16, 1941, son of the late Charles William Baber Jr. and LaRue Lillie Koogler. Chuck lived in Waynesboro in his younger years. His first year, his mom and dad couldn’t pick his name. He was called “The Baby” before his parents settled on Charles III taking after his father. Chuck was “Little Charlie” and also known as “Chuck.” He graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sherry; son, Eric; daughter, Holly Moore; brother, Gerald “Jerry” Baber and wife Wanda; grandchildren, Gordon and Kalley Moore, Margaret Sant, Dalton Palmer, Izabel, Steve, Alexa Petroff and Nathan Palmer; and extended family members, Joy Sant and husband Bill, Robert Palmer and Elizabeth Petroff and husband Steve.
Chuck’s biggest interest and enjoyment was his family, the many friends both in the church and the scouting program. In Waynesboro, he received the Order of the Arrow and his Eagle Scout. He enjoyed being the scout master for troop 443 with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He never missed a camp out. Chuck loved hunting, collecting knives and straight razors and fishing and sharing some “big fish stories.”
Chuck was the first operations manager for Best Products in Lynchburg and as later transferred to open the store on Military Hwy. and Independence Blvd.
A service celebrating Charles’ life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4784 Princess Anne Road, with Bishop Karl Thorpe officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Chuck’s hospice nurses, Heather Robinson and Elaine, for their kindness and helping hand.
