Former Grafton High School softball standout Hannah Olson, who graduated in 2014, achieved her first collegiate accolade on the diamond this week.

The Colonial Athletic Association named Olson as the Rookie of the Week on Wednesday after leading Elon in batting average (.500 on 5-of-10 batting), scoring six runs and stealing three bases during the Phoenix’s first three games of the season.

Olson’s offensive output, which included her game-winning run against Radford on Saturday, has propelled Elon to an early 3-0 record with a win against USC Upstate and two wins over Radford.

A two-year caption on the Clippers softball team, Olson was tabbed as the Bay Rivers District Player of the Year during her junior year after batting .500 for the season and driving in 24 runs.

She was given first-team All-District and All-Region honors, and earned All-State honors during her sophomore and senior seasons.
