Baseball: Ferebee’s One-Hitter Lifts Tabb Over New Kent

Brandon Ferebee pitched a complete game one-hitter and went 2-3 at the plate with a run and an RBI apiece to guide Tabb past New Kent 4-0 on Friday.

The Tigers were on a four-game losing streak heading into Friday and got a much-needed win before next week’s grueling schedule of four games in five days.

New Kent, on the other hand, was riding a four-game winning streak entering the game and now joins Lafayette (9-3) and Grafton (9-3) atop the district standings with three losses.

Ferebee’s counterpart, the Trojans Matt Carpenter, also gave a strong effort on the mound as it was a 0-0 ball game until Ferebee, Hunter Watson and Dylan Camper helped spark a four-run rally for Tabb in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lafayette Baseball Beats Rival Jamestown in Extra Innings to End Two-Game Skid

Lafayette’s baseball team ended a two-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over rival Jamestown in extra innings on the Eagles’ home field Friday.

After Lafayette scored two runs in the top of the eighth to break a 3-3 tie and take a 5-3 lead, Daniel Blankinship pitched his second scoreless inning of relief in the bottom of the frame to pick up the win.

Jamestown starter Sean Hughes did not factor into the decision despite pitching seven strong innings with nine strikeouts for the Eagles. Hughes’ biggest contribution of the night, though, was a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that tied the game at 3-3.
