JCC Police, McGruff to Participate in National Night Out

James City County Police officers and McGruff the Crime Dog are preparing to participate in the 30th annual National Night Out scheduled for Aug. 6.

Neighborhoods can ask James City County police and McGruff the Crime Dog to attend their events, by contacting Master Police Officer Kelly Saponaro at 757-603-6023 or email [email protected] by Friday. Registration can also be completed online.

The Williamsburg Police Department is not yet participating in National Night Out events, but may consider participating in the future. York County celebrates National Night Out on the first Tuesday in October, along with Crime Prevention Month.

National Night Out aims to not only heighten crime prevention awareness, but also to strengthen the partnerships between the community and police. National Night Out is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday of August. According to NATW’s website, more than 37 million people participate in the National Night Out, representing all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canada and worldwide military bases.

Residents are asked to spend the evening outdoors with neighbors and officers — after locking their doors and turning on the porch lights.
