If you find yourself in Upper York County with a craving for a Grand Slam or a Moons Over My Hammy, you won’t be out of luck for long.
The Gazebo House of Pancakes on Bypass Road is being converted into a 24-hour Denny’s.
Owner Mario Kokolis said the Gazebo closed on New Year’s Day to begin the transition. If you’re a Gazebo regular, chances are you won’t recognize the building once the contractors — who begin work next week — are finished.
The new Denny’s is expected to open in late May or early June, though no hiring date has been set to staff the new restaurant. Some staff from Gazebo will be carried over.
The building’s distinctive glass siding is all being replaced with a new exterior. One feature that will set this Denny’s apart from many others is that it will have an outdoor seating area with around 25 seats.
“You won’t recognize the building from its existing design,” Kokolis said.
The furniture on the inside was sold at auction in the past few weeks, clearing space for the contractors to begin work.
Kokolis said his parents opened the Gazebo on July 4, 1983.
