WILLIAMSBURG — The BurgQuest Tabletop Gaming Festival announced its lineup on Monday for its inaugural event slated for Sept. 20-22.

The festival kicks off at the Woodlands Conference Center on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m.

BurgQuest will feature a variety of live musical and comedic performances. The Triforce Quartet, a traditional string quartet that plays video game music and has performed for sold-out audiences at major gaming events around the world will perform two one-hour shows on Sept. 21. Other live shows include “The Trollnight Show,” a fantasy late nite talk show, “Roll 4,” a live role-playing improv show, “Suggestion Dungeon,” an audience suggestion-driven show with stand-up, sketch, and improv, and “Pushing Dragons,” a live Dungeons & Dragons improv show.

A festival keynote presentation, “Backyard Rebels: Gamifying the American Revolution & Local History,” will be hosted by Pat Mooney, the founder of game studio Flagbearer Games, and creator of “Nations & Cannons,” a role-playing game exploring the American Revolutionary War through the gameplay mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons.

Additional guests include Goblins & Growlers, a Virginia game community dedicated to creating inclusive spaces for RPGs, and RichMahj, a local organization providing lessons on the culture and rules of the Chinese game Mahjong.

BurgQuest also said that the panels lineup — featuring talks from both guests and submitting attendees — will feature a variety of topics ranging from sessions for those curious about getting into collecting games or playing RPGs (role-playing games) for the first time to high-energy game shows with audience involvement.

Private game sessions led by professional role-playing Game Masters will also be available for additional purchase. Sessions are available for players of all skill levels and are designed for both first-timers and veteran players alike.

BurgQuest added it has partnered with the tabletop division of gaming nonprofit MAGFest (Music & Gaming Festival) to host a free-play game library at the festival. Attendees will be able to browse through a library of hundreds of game titles to check out and play with others on-site.

Registration includes access to all three days of the event and costs $55 — $25 for children under 12.

The primary sponsor of the weekend is the City of Williamsburg, and the event is being produced by AVAdventure Productions, a Williamsburg production company.

The full weekend schedule, tickets and additional details are available on the event website.
