ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY — Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, with the assistance of the Newport News Police Department, made an arrest for the murder of Williamsburg teen Aonesty Selby Tuesday night.
Andarius McClelland of Newport News was charged with second degree murder and use or display of a firearm in committing a felony.
Isle of Wight County deputies found Selby’s body on a remote logging path in the 13000 block of Blue Ridge Trail in Isle of Wight County Friday.
Earlier in the day, family members had reported Selby missing, saying they had not heard from her since Wednesday, Jan. 11. James City County Police Department (JCCPD) issued a news flash to the public to be on the lookout for her. Selby turned 18 on Jan. 10, and was thought to be in the company of several individuals just before her death, officials said.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk completed its autopsy Monday, finding Selby died as a result of a single gunshot wound.
Andarius McClelland was arrested peacefully at the apartment he shares with his brother in the 12000 block of Jefferson Ave. in Newport News, according to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Facebook page, and was being transported by investigators to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s for processing.
“Lord my family is hurting right now. So many questions unanswered. You never know how strong you are until being strong IS your ONLY choice,” Selby’s aunt, Ebony Selby, wrote in a public Facebook post Saturday.
The family has launched a GoFundMe page to help with the cost of funeral expenses.
