WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg-based trio The Three Jolly Coachmen announced it will sponsor a new concert series in Williamsburg beginning Friday, Sept. 16.

The Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House will feature entertainment performed bi-monthly by a variety of local talent in an atmosphere reminiscent of a 1960s-era coffee house.

All performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church’s Lewis Hall, located at 331 Duke of Gloucester St., just behind the Lululemon store. The Three Jolly Coachmen will open the series on Sept. 16, and later dates will also feature popular local combos Joe’s Day Off and Bagels and Fraylox Klezmer Band, according to media releases.

The Three Jolly Coachmen have performed since 2007 as a Kingston Trio tribute.

“For the past 15 years, we have loved performing for enthusiastic audiences around Williamsburg who have very fond memories of the folk music craze that held a firm grip on America’s pop music imagination from the late 1950s until the early 1960s,” says Three Jolly Coachmen member Greg Davy. “We play in tribute to The Kingston Trio because we believe they were among the most influential groups of that era.  They made great, singable music that many other folk groups imitated, and also inspired many younger pop singers who went on to their own fame, such as the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and Peter, Paul, and Mary.”

As well as promoting musicians, The Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House will also routinely feature a display of artworks from local artists.  The Three Jolly Coachmen announced the works of well-known local artist Bob Oller will be exhibited during the Sept. 16 concert.

A portion of the proceeds for the concert series will be donated to a Williamsburg-area charity. The charity that will benefit from the Sept. 16 concert will be the SpiritWorks Foundation, which delivers peer-to-peer programs and services for children, youth, and adults living in recovery from the disease of addiction.  Its programs and services build resilience in children, inspire youth to live drug-free, and support, educate and empower adults who live in recovery.

Tickets are $30, $25, and $20, and can be purchased in advance online, or at the door.  For more information and to reserve a seat, send inquiries to TJCCoffeeHouse@gmail.com
