WILLIAMSBURG — After posting one of the most successful careers in the history of William & Mary lacrosse, recent graduate Belle Martire will lead the Czech Republic national team at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship.

The championship, which will feature a record 30 nations, will be hosted by Towson University from June 29 – July 9. The Czech Republic’s pool play schedule includes: Italy (June 30), Colombia (July 1), Mexico (July 3) and Sweden (July 4).

Martire, who was selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine as one of “30 Players to Watch” at the championship, competed with the Czech Republic national team following her freshman season in 2019 and was selected as the MVP of the European Cup.

A three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) standout, Martire concluded her W&M career ranked third in school history in goals (149) and sixth in points (182). Additionally, she owns the program’s single-game record for goals (9), assists (6) and points (10).

The Czech Republic has made four World Championship appearances with its best showing coming in 2005 when it placed eighth. It currently ranks 10th in the world, which is where it finished in 2017 during its last trip to the World Championship.
