YORK COUNTY — York County School Division’s (YCSD) head administrator, Dr. Victor Shandor, has been recognized as the Superintendent of the Year for Region II of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Region II consists of 16 school divisions around the Greater Hampton Roads area.

According to a press release from YCSD, the division was selected by the VDOE as a “School Division of Innovation” for its efforts in implementing alternatives to traditional instructional practices and school structures that improve learning, promote college and career readiness, and good citizenship.

Currently, YCSD boasts one of the highest graduation rates in Virginia at 97 percent. More than 62 percent of division graduates earn an Advanced Studies Diploma, which is ten percent above than the state average.

Since voted by his peers to be named the regional superintendent, Dr. Shandor is now a candidate for the Virginia Superintendent of the Year award.
