York County woman found dead in Wythe, Hampton PD says

Authorities are investigating the death of a 20-year-old York County woman found in Hampton who had been missing for almost a week.

On Feb. 26 at approximately 4 p.m. Hampton police officers responded to a “man-down” call at the 400 block of Harbor Drive in Wythe and found Marina Turner, 20, of York County, on the ground, according to the Hampton Police Department’s news release on Monday.

Reggie Williams, spokesman for the HPD said on Tuesday officers pronounced Turner dead when they arrived. Her body was not found in the water but rather on the roadway towards the end of a dead end street.

When asked for the preliminary cause of death, Williams said the department could not release any information and noted Turner’s body was sent to the medical examiner’s office Tidewater district in Norfolk.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he added.

Donna Price, district administrator for the medical examiner’s Tidewater District, said on Tuesday Turner’s death was listed as “pending” as in “pending further investigation” by the medical examiner’s office and law enforcement.

“That is the cause of manner of death at the moment,” Price said, adding the investigation average between 12-14 weeks.

Shelley Ward, spokeswoman for the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Turner was reported missing by her mother on Feb. 22 and was last seen on Feb. 20.

According to the report, Ward said Turner did need medication but the report did not specify what the medication was for.
