The York County School Division recently released an update regarding the 2020-21 school year.

The division created a new website, Return to School, where they have information for families regarding the coronavirus along with status updates for the 2020-21 school year and other resources.

The division conducted stakeholder surveys in June to gather feedback on the reopening of schools. Multiple stakeholder focus groups have also been created to present proposals for the upcoming school year to the School Board on July 23. Virtual public forums, in which the community can provide additional feedback, are scheduled July 27 at 6 p.m. and July 28 at noon.

The division also developed plans for summer athletics conditioning for fall sports with the goal of beginning those activities this week.

The Virginia High School League will make a decision regarding 2020-21 school year sports and activities on July 27, according to a news release from the division.

The division will also implement a 1:1 technology program beginning this fall. All students in grades K-12 will use a device at school and at home. Families will have the choice to pay a $50 technology fee or provide their own personal device. Recurring annual costs including technical support and device updates will be covered through the annual fees.

The division vendors are offering the same models bought by the division at a reduced rate for families that wish to buy a device.

As for school supplies, elementary and middle school level lists will be posted on school websites prior to Virginia’s tax-free holiday weekend. Supply lists for high school courses will be provided by schools and teachers either before the start or once school year begins.
