UPDATE July 26, 2019: Hampton Police have identified the two people found dead as Alexis Renee Berro, a 20-year-old Virginia Beach woman, and Diquan Divory Milton, 25, of Hampton.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two people were found dead Thursday morning following what police described as an armed-barricade in Hampton.

At Approximately 3:16 a.m., dispatchers received a call that a person inside a home in the 100 block of Findley Square was suffering from mental illness, Hampton Police wrote in a news release.

After staff received information the person  was armed with a weapon, the call was upgraded.

At the scene, officers attempted to communicate with the individual to “deescalate the situation.” Police said during the attempt, shots were fired inside the home at which point Hampton’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiations team were called onto the scene.

Authorities continued attempts to communicate with the barricaded person, “but instead were able to contact two additional males that were inside the residence.” Officers were able to help those two males leave the home safely.

Following their exit, Hampton SWAT team members entered the home and found the individual with the weapon and a woman dead.

Their identities were not immediately released.
