VIRGINIA BEACH — The pilots of the U.S. Navy flight demonstration team — the Blue Angels — can be seen and heard over the skies of Virginia Beach as they participate in the NAS Oceana Air Show this weekend.
During practice flights on Sept. 19, local media were invited to catch some of the show. The Blue Angels, which headline the NAS Oceana Air Show each September, are the oldest performing demonstration team in the U.S. The 2025 show will celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Navy.
To become a member of the Blue Angels, applicants must go through a rigorous application process and be voted on unanimously to be offered a slot.
In 2023, the Blue Angels had a pilot from Yorktown and a flight surgeon from Williamsburg on its roster.
Gates for the 2025 show open at 8 a.m. with flying starting at 10 a.m. on both Sept. 20 and 21. All spectators 18 and up are required to have a photo ID for entry. Parking and entry to the show are free.
Other performers at the show include the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, F/A-18F Rhino Demonstration Team, Air Power Demonstration, The Fleet Flyby, F-35C II Lightning Demonstration Team, Firewalkers International Pyro, Kevin Coleman, Skydive Suffolk, Wingwalker Sam, Acemaker Aviation, Warbird Thunder Airshows, Redline Airshows, Smoke N Thunder Jet Truck, Aarron Deliu, Mike Goulian and Precision Exotics.
The show will also have vendors, food trucks, static displays and STEM activities.
