WILLIAMSBURG— Jamestown High School will be performing “Footloose” from April 17-19 as part of the Williamsburg-James City County Schools Theatre Companies line-up for spring musicals.
The performance is being directed by Jay Harvey Stone. He was inspired to choose “Footloose” for this particular performance for multiple reasons, but a key among them was giving students a chance to play high school students.
“I want the audience to know that the world is in good hands. I think there is a lot of negative things that people say about young people and the state of our world. But the world is in good hands,” said Stone about what he hopes audiences take away from the show.
The theater production is quite large. There are over 50 members in the cast as well as a backstage crew and approximately a 14-person music pit that will accompany the performance.
Two cast members who were highlighted are Bradley Pankratz and Evan Rabinowitz. Pankratz plays Ren McCormack and is also a newcomer to Jamestown High School. Evan, who plays Willard Hewitt, has been involved in musicals for all of his four years at Jamestown. This will be his last musical, but he expressed that he enjoyed the music and was happy to end it on this note.

“I think a lot of people think ‘Footloose’ is all about dance, but when you really look at the plot, the people in the town where the play takes place aren’t allowed to dance,” Stone added. “There is dancing, it’s fun, it’s exciting, but there’s not any more than a typical musical.”
There will be four showings of the performance at the following dates and times:
April 17 at 7 p.m.
April 18 at 7 p.m.
April 19 at 2 p.m.
April 19 at 7 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at the door; however, WJCC highly encourages tickets be purchased for the show in advance to ensure seats are available. Tickets will range from $12 to $15 a person.
