
HAMPTON — The city’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service ceremony is at the Northampton Community Center on Jan. 17.
The event is open to the public and donations for children such as new hats, gloves, scarves, socks and gently used coats are the price for admission.

According to the city’s announcement, this year attendees will create sleeping mats for the homeless using plastic yarn made from grocery bags. Matthew Stearn, executive director of Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions is the keynote speaker.
The Annual MLK Day of Service ceremony is at the Northampton Community Center, 1453 Todds Lane on from 9 a.m. to noon.
