Cops and local nonprofit host new basketball league for young boys

NEWPORT NEWS — The Citywide Basketball League’s second game at the Boys and Girls Club of Virginia is tSaturday.

According to the police department’s news release, eight police officers coach boys from all Boys and Girls Club locations around the city as the players compete in team of three in a single elimination tournament.

The basketball league helps boys improve self-esteem and social skills such as positive conflict resolution and how to have fun in an non-violent environment.

The Chief’s Challenge: Citywide Basketball League’s next game is at the Boys and Girls Club of Virginia, 3301 Marshall Ave. at 10 a.m.
