This organization wants Hampton Roads resident to learn how to recycle — properly

NEWPORT NEWS — America Recycles Day starts Thursday and the askHRgreen organization has some recycling tips for Hampton Roads residents.

According to the nonprofit’s website, up to 40 percent of items collected curbside in Hampton Roads were unacceptable and the items ranged from plastic bags and styrofoam to yard debris and dirty take-out containers.

Most recycling providers accept clean plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard but check your locality just in case. Items that are usually not accepted at recycling centers include ink toner cartridges, old clothing and hazardous household materials.

For more recycling tips and events, visit the askHRgreen website.
