NEWPORT NEWS — The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility will host its annual “Physics Fest” events for all students in Hampton Roads starting at the end of October.
The “Physics Fest” is series of free educational classes held throughout the school year at Jefferson Labs. The event started in 2000-2001 school year.
The classes will have different experiments and demonstrations about plasma and cryogenics, the study of how matter reacts to cold temperatures, to educate students about the science of the “very hot” and “very cold”, according to a news release form the lab.
In addition, participants will be learn about new technology the lab uses and what experiment the lab performs. Each session will last two hours and is open to all students, including those homeschooled, in the Hampton Roads area and the surrounding communities.
The class dates are scheduled throughout the remainder of the school year and end May of next year.
“The real draw is typically the fun we have demonstrating the properties of liquid nitrogen and learning about the physics of it,” said Steve Gagnon, science education administrator at Jefferson Labs.
The “Physics Fest” events will be at Jefferson Lab’s auditorium, 12000 Jefferson Ave. The class sessions are free, however reservations are required. Click here for a list of classes.
