HAMPTON — The Hampton Police Division and the city have partnered with the Accident Support Services International Ltd. and the state on the implementation of the Collision Reporting Center in the city.
The center will provide better reporting of vehicle collisions, according to the police division.
Through the center the one-on-one interview process simplifies the reporting process and adds value to the customer service aspect.
Police and insurers will now have real-time access to collision data and reports through ASSI’s Microsoft award winning Collision Reporting & Occurrence Management System.
The collision data collected will be used for analysis, according to a police news release.
Residents will have the convenience of a safe location where they can go to complete their report.
The report indicated that police will continue to investigate collisions at the scene that involve injuries, suspected criminal activities, or damage to private property.
The Hampton Collision Reporting Center is in the Pinewood Plaza at 1919 Commerce Drive. The hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The goal of the ASSI is to facilitate an active partnership between police and insurers in post-accident care by providing knowledgeable advice and assistance to crash victims with empathy, integrity and availability, according to the news release.
This results in increased conveniences for the public as well as greater road safety.
Supporting insurers fund the program; therefore, there is no cost to the police or the public for these additional services.
“The Hampton Police Division is excited to partner with Accident Support Services Ltd. to provide our community with the Hampton Collision Reporting Center,” Chief Terry Sult said. “Not only will the Center provide a safe and comfortable location for citizens to report traffic collisions and file claims with their insurance companies, but it will also reduce the amount of time that officers are on scene at collisions. This will allow officers additional time to respond to higher priority calls for service and be proactive in the community.”
