HAMPTON — Sinful Treats is a custom cake and treats bakery, new to the retail scene in the city.
After running the business out of her home starting just five years ago, owner Stephanie Rolla has moved to her first brick-and-mortar on Feb. 10.
“I bought the space two-and-a-half years ago for the commercial kitchen when using my home wasn’t an option anymore,” she said.
Sinful Treats primarily ran on an order-only business that expanded to a food truck before Rolla settled on the retail space.
She said business picked up enough to justify the move and for her to finally switch the job to a full-time gig.
Rolla wasn’t always a cake baker. She used to work in Cleveland as a restaurant manager but when family called her back home she decided to start selling cakes to friends.
She said she wasn’t ready to make the leap into being a full-time cake baker until her business grew from just friends making requests to people she didn’t know asking for her cake-making expertise.
Moving the business from her home in Poquoson to Hampton was a logical move for Rolla.
She said Hampton is so supportive of small businesses and the city really worked with her to get her retail business up and running.
“It’s the right timing to start a small business in Hampton,” Rolla said.
Her new store opened less than a mile from where she grew up, so everyday is like a small reunion for her.
Sinful Treats has a wide range of options – custom cakes, cupcakes, cake pops cookie bar, cheesecake and more.
Rolla is gearing up for Independence Day where she’ll be serving her treats out of the truck at Oozlefinch Brewery’s Fourth of July celebration.
