NEWPORT NEWS — Piggly Wiggly opened its doors to the city.
The store had its grand opening on June 27 at 3101 Jefferson Ave., effectively replacing Jim’s Local Market, which closed in January.
Found primarily in the south, the first Piggly Wiggly store opened in 1916 in Memphis. There are more than 530 Piggly Wiggly stores in 17 states, according to the store’s website.
The grocery store is widely known for its variety of meat and prepared foods. In addition to typical grocery offerings, the store also features a full-service BayPort Credit Union and a community room, according to a news release from the city.
