NEWPORT NEWS — Ashley Parker wanted a space for her preschool daughter to have a fun birthday that wasn’t traditional.
Parker, who also serves as a professor at Stratford University, took matters into her own hands — she said that’s when the idea of Paint & Play Zone dawned on her.
“The vision came to me. There’s a bunch of places where kids play what can I do that’s different? Painting and playing,” Parker said.
Paint & Play Party Zone will have a grand opening at noon on June 23 at 658 J. Clyde Morris Blvd.
The business caters to people of all ages and Parker said she wants to foster a community environment.
It will offer two hour sessions, which include 45 minutes of painting, 45 minutes of playing and 30 minutes in the party room.
Each package includes invitations for guests, an item for each guest to paint, food, drinks, and table settings such as plates, napkins and cutlery.
Paint & Play Party Zone is designed for ages 3 and older. The 2,100-square-foot space includes a playroom, paint area and two private party rooms.
While kids wait for their original paintings to dry they can enjoy playtime in a sectioned-off area.
Participants can choose to paint various ceramic crafts or special canvasses. For the older crowd, the business offers adult paint nights, which include private bookings for bridal showers, date nights and team building activities.
“I don’t want to put a limit on what Paint & Play Party Zone can become, Parker said. “I want it to be continued growth and improvement.”
