NEWPORT NEWS — The fire department here will make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed.
Department representatives will check the restraints from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on June 8 at Fire Station 3.
“This is a free service to provide proper seat safety checks,” said Lisa King, public information representative for the department.
King said 70 percent of car seat installations are done improperly.
The fire department has 25 certified car seat technicians and many of them will be on hand to check individual car seats.
The department asks that you bring the manufacturer’s instructions for the seat and a towel, blanket and pool noodle to assist them in installing the car seat.
King said the towel and pool noodle help with aligning and stabilizing the car seat.
