NEWPORT NEWS — Locals came together with United Way to raise money in a different way.
United Way held its Over the Edge to End Poverty event on May 5 at the Holiday Inn in Newport News.
The Over the Edge to End Poverty is a campaign to raise money to help end poverty on the Peninsula. Forty participants rappelled down the side of the Holiday Inn and raised $1,000 each, according to a news release from United Way.
Some of the community organizations represented by rappellers included Newport News Shipbuilding, Ferguson Enterprises, Sentara Healthcare, Tradition Brewing and TowneBank, according to the news release.
