NEWPORT NEWS — The first weekend in June is license-free fishing in Virginia.
No fishing license of any kind is required for rod and reel fishing in freshwater or saltwater on June 1 until June 3, according to a news release from the City of Newport News.
The license holiday applies to recreational rod and reel fishing but regulations including size and catch restrictions remain in effect, according to the news release.
