NEWPORT NEWS — Providing safe drinking water for countries in need requires collaboration.
That’s what Newport News Waterworks and Water for People, an international nonprofit, have been doing since 2005.
Waterworks recently received a $1,000 donation from the James City County Rotary Club to give to Water for People, whose mission is to bring safe drinking water and sanitation to four million people in nine countries.
Since the partnership between the city and Water for People, Newport News Waterworks has provided $189,000 in aid, according to a news release from the city.
There are 1.8 billion people in the world without access to safe water and 2.4 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation, according to the news release.
